Oakhill College

Extra Curricular

Teamwork is a vital part of the Preparatory School and from day one each pupil is part of a team as a member of either Martyrs House or Scholars House. Each week pupils earn merits for their House, which results in a winning House each week and each half term. Rewarding pupils is at the heart of what Oakhill College is about. Merits are given out as a reward for good behaviour, pleasant manners, good deeds, overcoming a difficulty, achievement and trying hard. They act as a confidence booster, offer a moment to shine, and provide motivation to want to achieve again or repeat positive behaviour. Other rewards include a class star, smiley faces and the weekly ‘Wiz of the Week’ (plus the odd sweetie too!). Ofsted (spring 2007) described the behaviour of our pupils as ‘outstanding’. Within each class, pupils take turns to be a monitor and pupils in Year Six become prefects and have a number of responsibilities to carry out during the year.

Often when we look back on our school days it’s the times involved in activities away from the classroom that we remember most. Pupils in the Preparatory School can take part in a wide range of extra curricular activities that are so vital in developing skills of teamwork, individual achievement and sheer enjoyment.

The following clubs take place during the academic year:

  • Football
  • Netball
  • Tennis
  • Hockey
  • Golf
  • Tag-Rugby
  • Cross Country
  • Badminton
  • Speech and Drama
  • Chess
