Extra Curricular
Pupils enjoy a varied extended curricular programme, which enhances the wider curriculum and school experience, and caters for a wide range of interests. Pupils are encouraged to make the best use of their free time in the enjoyment of healthy pursuits and to learn vital life skills such as being part of a team and serving the community. Inter - House events take place throughout the year in sporting, academic and performing arts contests. These events not only provide enjoyment, but promote team spirit and, of course, healthy competition.
Sport is a vital component of the busy daily life of Oakhill and pupils are offered the chance to participate in a wide range of physical activities. Sporting excellence is a long standing tradition and Oakhill College now boast the best facilities in the area, having full use of the recently-opened Sports Hall and equipment of
Oakhill Academy on campus. Practices take place during lunchtimes and after school and regular fixtures with other schools give pupils opportunities to be part of the team and enjoy a true sense of competition.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is very active within the College with most pupils in Year Ten taking up the Bronze and many advancing to Silver Level in Year Eleven. The expedition section of the award remains a highlight of the year when participants venture out into the Ribble Valley and beyond, to enjoy the sense of adventure and discovery which it brings.
The recent formation of the Oakhill St Vincent de Paul Group has enhanced the good work of Oakhill pupils in the local community. Recently, Year Ten pupils have spent their lunchtimes helping out at a local nursing home and seek to undertake further projects in the near future.
Pupils in Years Seven to Nine also undertake an annual activity week, which promotes the enjoyment and challenge of outdoor pursuits and new experiences, builds a sense of team spirit, and forms a vital part of the broader curriculum.
The Art, Music and Drama departments provide a wide range of activities beyond the classroom with regular visits to art galleries, themed music days and activities and opportunities to perform in various choirs and ensembles. The whole school drama performances are second to none and and this year’s production of ‘My Fair Lady’ was no exception.
