The year 7 trip to Hadrian’s Wall was a huge success as all the students arrived back here in one piece! (We’re not sure about the teachers though!)
The journey to the Lead Mine was a little long and tedious but when we got there, oh boy was it worth it! I think we all found a little lead (it’s called galena) and we experienced going down a lead mine. We also learned how harsh conditions must have been for the miners in the nineteenth century. On the way to the Youth Hostel we all played dares (except for Jack and Felix) to pass the time. Everybody was tired and worn out by the time we got there but after tea recovered enough for Mr Jepson to tell us some great ghost stories.
On Tuesday we went to Alnwick castle where some of the first Harry Potter movie was filmed. Then after that we went to a beach next to some castle ruins. Five boys including Jack, Felix, Luke, Josh and Mark went in the sea with just their boxers on. Jack went swimming in sea with Felix while the other boys just had a little paddle in the shallow bit – Mrs Wharton had a paddle too!
On Wednesday we went on a 3 mile walk along Hadrian’s Wall which seemed like 30 miles. Felix left his phone at a mile castle and Mr Jepson said “right, go back and find it”. After the 3 mile walk we went to a picnic site and had our lunch. Then we went to a Roman museum and saw lots of old artefacts and we came across a lot of Archaeologists, digging up ruins.
Later that evening, back at the hostel, we came across a Roman soldier named Maximus who taught us how to fight and obey roman orders.
In our opinion Thursday was the best because we went to Beamish. For those of you that don’t know what Beamish is, it is a remake of a typical 1913 town. At first we did a bit of exploring then we all took part in a murder mystery which was great fun, since we managed to solve it. Then we went off in little groups to explore. Back at the Hostel we had a quiz on general knowledge.
On Friday we had our breakfast and set off on the journey to Carlisle where we could go shopping. So we parked up and walked to the cathedral. Mr Jepson asked if anyone would like to visit the castle with him and everyone (including Mrs Andrews and Mrs Wharton) said “no” except for Jonathon. So everyone went off in their little groups and we had one and a half hours to go shopping then meet back at an historical landmark. On our way home we called at some services to have some lunch. Jack, Felix, Luke, Mark and Josh went into the services to get some sweets and a drink. But we were shocked as the coke was over £2 for a bottle and £3 for a packet of Haribo. So we left it. Overall it was a great trip. We learned a lot, laughed a lot and had some fun!
Quotes of the week: Jonathon said, “Wow I just wish I could touch that wall, right now!” and most of the group: “Miss, is an owl a bird?”
